Jason Joseph gets around. Born in America’s heartland to the son of Indian immigrants, he spent his childhood in Des Moines, Iowa…with summers in Kerala, India…before growing up in Florida and graduating from the Berklee College of Music in Boston…to ultimately move to Los Angeles to follow the dream.
That dream was born on the AM radio of JJ’s childhood. Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Donny Hathaway…these unique voices, seasoned with the Indian tabla and dhol, melded into a stylistic gumbo that has defined his sound as a writer, singer, producer & music director.
And the sound is catching on. Ten years ago, JJ released his first album called Out Of My Mind :: Side A, and began a weekly live residency called @SuperSoulMonday. The night is still going strong and has grown from three musicians playing for less than a dozen customers at a dive bar, to become a Los Angeles institution…routinely drawing A-listers like Drake, Dr. Dre, Sheryl Crow, Queen Latifah and John Mayer. On any given week, you never know who will be in the room with JJ and his band.
Meanwhile, JJ is releasing a brand new album this year, and expanding his signature SuperSoul sound further into L.A, Las Vegas, Nashville…& beyond.
