Clutch the Pearls are an indiepunk janglepop band from Los Angeles. Born in 2012 from the ashes of queerpop darlings Miata, Clutch the Pearls carry the torch for the eternal equation that is two guitars, bass, and drums. In a world where precious little is truly new, they instead focus their talents and energies into creating something durable, pliable and tasty. Consisting of the dual guitar wave of Jim Ferguson and Adam Rycroft, the low-slung shimmy of Jimmy Jasmine on bass, and the powerhouse motor fan-turned-drummer Sean MFD, the band’s sound is powered by noise, mindful of melody, enamored of extravagance and hungry for simplicity. They’re like the Shangri-La’s, but prettier.
The band released its debut 7-inch single “Until Somebody Yells Stop”/Susan Morgan” (featuring original drummer, the glorious Tammy Germani) in late 2015, and have shared stages with the likes of Pansy Division, Missing Persons, Tommy Keene, GayC/DC, Carole Pope, Boots Electric (aka Jesse Hughes), The Chew Toys, Zbörnak, and many, many more.
What is a Clutch the Pearls show like? Your deepest, darkest fantasies made slick, throbbing flesh, that’s what it’s like. They combine the arrogance of glam rock with the introspection of jazz fusion and then dress it all up in screaming neon plaid monochrome and deliver it into the world. They care enough about their audience to always leave them wanting more. They give ‘til it hurts and hurt until it feels good. Clutch the Pearls are the living, breathing embodiment of the ultimate rock n’ roll mantra – “Rock is hard. Let’s go shopping!”
